Mumbai, capital city of Maharashtra has a population of 20.7 million as of 2011 making it the most populous city in India and the fifth most in the world. The Sealink India's first cable stayed bridge is an engineering marvel connecting Bandra and Worli. The bridge cuts down travel time between the western suburbs and Nariman point, the central business district in South Mumbai. Other major roads of the city are western and eastern express highways and Sion Panvel Express way.

Mumbai has five main roads that define the city.

  • The Western Express Highway and SV road connect the western suburbs of the city from Bandra to Dahisar.
  • The Eastern Express Highway connects Mumbai city proper to Eastern Suburbs all the way to Thane stretching out entirely from the North to the South.
  • India's first six lane concrete expressway that connects Mumbai to Pune and spans over 93km is another road that defines the city and finally the Sion-Panvel expressway that allows easy access to people of Navi Mumbai to Mumbai proper.

  • Key contributors to Mumbai's economy are gems, jewelry, leather, IT and ITES. Two of the major financial centres in Mumbai are the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Nariman Point.
