Panvel is the most populated suburb in the Raigad district, maintained by CIDCO. Being constructed over 300 years ago around land and sea trade routes makes it an important strategically located region in terms of both business routes and important highways. Panvel has now been divided into two. Old Panvel is heavily influenced by the British and Portugese while new Panvel is more modern becoming a prime residential area. A locality in Mumbai with large open spaces has made demand for apartments in Panvel as well as villas in Panvel increase significantly.
Panvel is well connected to other parts of the state. Major highways like the Mumbai-Pune expressway originate here and the Sion-Panvel Expressway that connects Panvel to the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport 42km away is also easily accessible.
Panvel is known for hosting some of the reputed schools in Mumbai with DAV, New Horizon and Buddhist International being in the area. Apart from schools there are a number of shopping malls like D Mart and K Mall in the area as well as hospitals like Dhanvantri and Suyash to name a few.
